4 Days Kibale & Bwindi Primate Safari
This immersive 4-day primate safari takes you deep into Uganda’s most celebrated rainforests for unforgettable encounters with two of Africa’s most fascinating species—chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. Beginning in Entebbe, you journey west to Kibale Forest, the “primate capital of the world,” before continuing south to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its endangered mountain gorillas.
What makes this itinerary exceptional is its flexibility: travelers can choose between chimpanzee trekking or the full chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale, and in Bwindi, opt for either classic gorilla trekking or the more immersive gorilla habituation experience. The adventure concludes with a scenic exit via Kigali (Rwanda) or a domestic flight from Kisoro back to Entebbe—giving you both convenience and breathtaking views.
Day 1: Transfer from Entebbe to Kibale Forest National Park
Your journey begins with an early morning pickup from Entebbe or Kampala. You’ll embark on a scenic drive westward through Uganda’s lush countryside, passing tea plantations, traditional homesteads, and the rolling hills of western Uganda.
Expect several stopovers for photography, stretching, and lunch in Fort Portal, one of Uganda’s most picturesque towns, nestled in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive in the Kibale Forest area in the afternoon, where you’ll check into your lodge surrounded by tropical rainforest. Spend the evening at leisure, listening to the sounds of the forest and preparing for the next day’s primate adventure.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Experience & Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Today offers a choice between two remarkable chimpanzee experiences:
Option 1: Chimpanzee Trekking (Standard Experience)
After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before entering the forest in search of habituated chimpanzee families. The trek can take 2–4 hours depending on their location. Once found, you’ll spend one magical hour observing their behavior—feeding, grooming, and communicating in their natural habitat.
Option 2: Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (Extended Experience)
For a deeper immersion, choose the full-day habituation experience. Accompanied by researchers and trackers, you’ll spend extended time (up to 4 hours with chimps) as they gradually become accustomed to human presence. This is a rare opportunity to witness raw, unfiltered chimpanzee behavior. After your chimpanzee encounter, enjoy lunch and begin the scenic transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The drive takes you through dramatic landscapes—tea estates, crater lakes, and terraced hills arriving in Bwindi in the evening.

Day 3: Gorilla Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Today is the highlight of your safari, meeting the majestic mountain gorillas. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing by expert rangers.
You will choose between two distinct experiences:
Option 1: Gorilla Trekking (Classic Experience)
Venture into the dense forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. Trekking can take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on their movement. Once located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour in their presence—watching them feed, interact, and care for their young.
Option 2: Gorilla Habituation Experience (Premium Experience)
For a more exclusive encounter, opt for the habituation experience. This allows up to 4 hours with a semi-habituated gorilla group, accompanied by researchers and conservationists. It’s a deeper, more intimate insight into their behavior and social dynamics. After your trek, return to the lodge for relaxation. In the afternoon, you may choose to visit a nearby community or simply unwind and reflect on the day’s extraordinary encounter.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali or Fly from Kisoro to Entebbe
After breakfast, you have two convenient exit options:
Option 1: Scenic Drive to Kigali (Rwanda)
Cross the Cyanika or Katuna border into Rwanda and enjoy a beautiful drive to Kigali. If time allows, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or explore the city before your departure flight.
Option 2: Fly from Kisoro to Entebbe
Alternatively, transfer to Kisoro Airstrip for a domestic scheduled flight back to Entebbe. This option saves time and offers stunning aerial views of southwestern Uganda’s landscapes, including the Virunga volcanoes. End of Tour.
