Igongo Cultural Centre
The Igongo cultural centre is located in the south western town of Biharwe, about 12 km away from Mbarara city. The centre is also close to Lake Mburo.This place is a perfect destination for culture lovers. The place is a perfect place for knowing more about the culture of the western people.
Igongo cultural centre was commissioned by president Museveni as a major tourism site and opened in 2011. Different tourists from Uganda and with in Uganda come to tour the place and is one of the most visited areas in Uganda. The place was mainly founded to study, document,conserve and promote the cultural heritage of the region.
In addition to that, the place is a popular stop over for people from Bwindi, kibale, Queen Elizabeth national park and then Mt Rwenzori. The place is a hub of activities since many people like student researchers, cultural seekers come at least and pay a visit.

Igongo cultural museum.
This is one of the popular places at the cultural centre. The museum holds many Ankole culture and and also other tribes. The museum is among the greatest museums in Uganda and in the western parts. There are many items to see in the museum such as animal skins, traditional milking pots, calabashes, the long-horned cattle, milk gourds, traditional stools, Ankole cultural regalia, Ankole cultural wears and many others.

The Mpororo Court.
This is another place to visit while at lgongo cultural centre. The place is also referred to as Kitami place. The court has an amazing history attached to it. In the past there was a powerful female ruler of Ankole known as Kitami.
In need to remember this powerful woman, a place was set up at the lgongo cultural centre which is similar to that of Queen Kitami. You will be able to see many items while at Mpororo court that are related to this popular Queen Kitami.
There are many things to see while at this court such as milk pots, drums, spears and shields.
The cultural village.
This is one of those places you should not fail to visit while in lgongo cultural section. At times the place is also known as ‘itaramiro’ referring to a place where people gather.
At this place you will be appealed with its setting for instance the traditional huts of the past years. Further more there are also cattle keepers and farmers. They will tell you more details about the ancient Ankole kingdom and its cultures.
Nkwanzi crafts and book shops.
This is a unique place for tourists who still pay a visit the Igongo cultural centre. There are many interesting books to sport from this place.
There are books with basic information about Ankole kingdom in particular and Uganda.
The place also contains craft made materials like the traditional costumes to wear while dancing, shoes, mats, hats, bags, baskets and many others.
