Sezibwa Falls, Activities & How to Access
What do we mean by the word water falls. A waterfall is a place where water flows over the edge of a steep, high cliff in hills/mountains and falls in to a pool below. Uganda is gifted with many falls including the Sezibwa falls. Sezibwa falls are located 32km away from Kampala city along the main road between Kampala and Jinja district of Mukono.
Brief history
The word sezibwa in the local language refers to something endless. The falls are also considered as an important cultural and spiritual site among the Baganda people. The sezibwa falls have a fascinating history about their existence thus attracting a lot of tourists.
The falls were born by a human being known as Nakungu Tebatuusa. It is said that the lady had some conflicts with her husband and then she decided to go to her parents home. Then on her way back from her mothers home she gave birth inform of water. Then sezibwa falls flowed to the west and then its twin in the East.
Further the place is more important to the Baganda kings. Kabaka Mwanga visited this and even planted a tree in a way of respecting the gods and spirits.
Later kabaka Muteesa 2 also visited this place and also on his departure. He still planted a tree as a way of recognizing the spiritual importance of Sezibwa falls.
In 2002 the current kabaka Ronald Muwenda also visited this place and it is one of B ugandas important tourism site.
Sezibwa falls are extremely of great importance to many people especially the Baganda society. Its from this area that many locals come for traditional reasons such as childbirth, healing, and many other complications that may arise.

Hiking and climbing rocks.
This is one of the popular activities to carry out from Sezibwa falls. While hiking expect to see River Sezibwa forcefully flowing down the rocks as it pours down the rocks and the in the dense trees. Hiking may be a bit strenuous but it needs one who is fit enough so hat you can access the top. you will be able to see many different things such as the surrounding scenery of the falls and various animals.
Bird watching.
This is one of those popular birding destinations in Uganda. The falls are covered by a green rain forest which is a sanctuary of over 50 bird species. Many birds reside this pace for example long -tailed cormorant, Osprey, Great blue Turaco, Lizard Buzzard, Grey,Red eyed dove, yellow-fronted canary, white-throated bee eater and many others.
Nature walks.
Different people tour sezibwa falls for a reason. The place is surrounded by many forests, bushes,shrubs and then rocks. There are a lot if fascinating things to see while on a nature walk.
At some time you can walk along the local farms plus plantations in the surrounding areas where you will meet with the people in the society.
Swimming.
This is another rewarding activity done from this area. Swimming is very interesting and can be carried out from this area though it is for experienced people. It is done for experienced people in order to prevent in conveniences. You will le to enjoy a lot of interesting things such the scenery of the land scapes and many others.
Cultural encounters.
Culture is one of those things that define a society. Uganda as a country has a lot of many tribes with different cultural beliefs. There are also cultural encounters while in sezibwa.
In sezibwa falls you will have to visit the shrine and it is located next to the beautiful waterfalls. shrines in Buganda are one of those places with great importance to the Baganda people. Some people with different problems visit this shrine in order to cure them. People who don’t believe in ATS are advised not to enter in to a third place.
Camping and picnics.
Camping is another activity not to miss out while at this area. Different people come and do camping from this area plus also picnics.
Expect to enjoy a lot of things while you camp very close to sezibwa such as the cool environment,beautiful sounds of the birds plus the sounds of the primates. Visitors interested in camping are advised t come with their own food and drinks in order to enjoy camping very well.
Village walks.
Sezibwa falls offers a plethora of activities including the village walks. Village walks can be done in four villages such as Ngogwe,Madudu,Nakungu and Wamala. Different tourists interested in learning the African culture can decide and do a village walk.
How to access Sezibwa falls?
You need not to worry about how you will access Sezibwa falls. Accessing these amazing falls is very easy. You pass via Kampala-Jinja highway and drive close to the high way at Kayanja trading center.
Upon reaching this place you will proceed to a murram road taking you through sugarcane plantations. You will drive until you find a small junction with a path on your right and you will have reached.
Entrance fees
To visit Sezibwa falls you need to pay certain amounts of money. Foreign residents pay 5 dollars while Ugandans pay shs 5000 and the young children will pay shs 3000.
