1 Day Gorilla Trekking Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

A 1-day gorilla experience in Uganda will bring you to the thick misty and biodiverse rainforest of Bwindi in the southwestern part of Uganda, where we find Bwindi impenetrable national park, the home of almost half of the world’s population of the most endangered species that possess 98% human DNA, the mountain gorillas and other primates like the black and white colobus monkeys, velvet monkeys, red-tailed monkeys among other. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is also home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and others, as well as birds. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is carried out in all the 4 sectors of Bwindi which are, Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija, and Buhoma.

Detailed Itinerary

A professional English-speaking driver guide will pick you up from Kigali at 4:00 am then you will set off for Bwindi through either the Cyanika or Katuna border enjoying the pleasant views along the route. You are encouraged to carry a packed meal for this activity.

On arrival at the park, your driver guide will take you to the headquarters for a briefing on the rules of gorilla trekking. Some of these rules will include wearing a mask while coming close to the gorillas, staying 7m away from the gorillas, not bringing food close to where the gorillas are, and burying human waste 30m below the ground while in the forest among many others.

After the briefing, you will be divided into groups of 8 and given hiking sticks. With your ranger guides, you will then penetrate the forest hiking on a steep, narrow, and dense jungle behind a scout slashing a path through the bushes using a machete in search of the gorilla family assigned to you. This will take about 2-8 hours and once you find them, you are allowed 1 hour with the huge, magnificent creatures, after which you return to the starting point for a gorilla trekking certificate. During your trek, you can also get to see many different birds such as the giant kingfisher. There will be a stopover in the park for a meal before you begin your return journey to Kigali from where you will connect to your next destination.
