Kahuzi Biega National Park
Located in the Eastern sector of the Country, Kahuzi Biega National Park famously known for the Eastern Lowland Gorillas. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which covers about 6,000 square Kilometers and protects a number of endangered animals, with virgin amazing landscape, mountains as well as Forests.
Kahuzi Biega National Park is located close to Bakavu, on the banks of Lake Kivu. The National Park is formed by the two volcanoes of Mt. Kahuzi and Mt. Biega, which also offer Hiking adventures. Although this park is famously known for the eastern Lowland Gorillas, it has got a diverse range of animals such as Forest Elephants, Chimpanzees, and different species of Birds.
Mount Nyiragongo
Mount Nyiragongo is Congo’s wonder overlooking the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nyiragongo is a part of the Volcanoes that make up the Virunga Conservation zone. Standing at 3,470 meters high, the Volcano is known for its active lava lake and frequent eruptions.
Nyiragongo is strategically located 20 Km north of Goma on the boarder of Congo and Rwanda. It has got some densely forested lower slopes with a diverse range of flora and Fauna. Some parts of the lower slopes are occupied by a large Number of people
You can access Mount Nyiragongo through Gisenyi in Rwanda to the Boarder, driving through Goma Town which is about 9 Miles to the Volcano.
Virunga National Park
Virunga National Park is one of the most famous National Parks in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Established in 1925, Virunga is marked as one of the oldest National Parks in Africa. This designated UNESCO World Heritage Site is 7,800 square Kilometers and home to various animals such as Elephants, Hyenas, Antelopes, different bird species and famously known for its Mountain Gorillas. Other attractions that make Virunga National Park unique include the Active Volcanoes of Nyiragongo, Stanley Falls, Congo River, Lake Edward and Kivu.
Idjwi Island :
Idjwi Island is a small Island measuring approximately 285 square kilometers in the south Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Some of the outstanding Features about this island is the rich and unique Culture, the aquatic life and activities like fishing, Boat Tours, the beautiful landscapes, Hot springs and its historical significance.
The National Museum of DRC
Established in 1910, The National Museum of the DRC is one of the oldest museums located in the capital City of Kinshasa. The Museum exhibits the country’s history, tradition and Culture of Congo’s diverse ethnic groups. The pre-colonial past and history is exhibited through artifacts, and documents that draw visitor’s attention to relate to the country’s struggles towards independence. Visitor who choose to visit the museum enjoy the learning about the tradition, natural History as well as the modern era.
The Bonobo Sanctuary
The Bonobo is a rare creature in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is an endangered species which is hunted for meat as well as the illegal practice of selling the bonono as a pet. The Sanctuary is located in a forested area which is safe for these endangered primates. The sanctuary protects young orphaned Bonobos and allows visitors to observe these rare animals in an eco-friendly way. This sanctuary works closely with the local people and communities towards conservation and the survival of these animals.
